Your messages and the coach's replies, the notes it keeps about your situation, and — if you signed in with Google — your Google account id, name and email. Nothing else. We never ask for your address, phone, or payment details.
Messages and the coach's notes are encrypted at rest in our database. If someone stole a backup they would get ciphertext. This is not end-to-end encryption: the server has to read your message to answer it.
To write a reply, your message and the relevant history are sent to the AI providers that run the models — currently DeepSeek, Google and Anthropic, under their API terms. They process the text to generate the answer. We do not sell, share, or publish your conversations, and no human at Missing Lesson reads them as a matter of routine.
If you use the site without an account, your session ends when you close the browser and everything you wrote is deleted from our servers within 24 hours.
We set one cookie: the login session that keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary for the site to work, so there is no consent banner for it. For traffic statistics we use Umami, which is cookieless and stores no personal data — it counts visits and actions like "someone signed in", never who you are or what you wrote.
When we run ads, our public pages may also load an advertising pixel (such as the Meta Pixel) so we can tell which ads work. It sees page visits and button clicks on the marketing site only — never your messages, your chat exports, or anything inside the app.
You can delete any thread from the sidebar, which removes its messages and notes. To delete your whole account and everything in it, email the address below and it is done.
Missing Lesson is coaching on relationship mechanics. It is not a substitute for a doctor or a therapist. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line — in the US, call or text 988.
